She… The Woman Who Wanted It All

  It was   his   birthday. Like every year, she knew it was her job to make it special. That is how it had   always been. She had the party planned to the last detail. The kids were almost adults and could have been more helpful, but she knew better than to depend on them! As she picked his gift from the wrapping station, she decided to make it early to his house and get the preparations going. Getting into the driver’s seat, she turned towards the house that was once her home. A home for 17 years, a home built with love and memories. A home she had ‘dumped without a second thought’…. or so they said! 22 years back….. They both had gone to the same university, pursued the same degrees, but only he had completed his education for 5 long years after their marriage, adding new degrees under his belt! She had worked to keep themselves afloat till he got into a blue-chip job. For the next 5 years, they had moved across countries, traveled the world, before finally settling to start a family

Coffee with Anu Aunty

Anuja downed the fever medicine just before the shoot. Thankfully, the dreaded test was negative, but the test-and-wait phase had sucked the life out of her. She had so many things lined up for Valentine's Day week, she would've hated being isolated inside a room. Of course, then too, she would have thought of posting regular updates on her Social Media, letting her small, but growing list of followers be entertained by her witty posts and comments. That was Anuja, all of 47, enjoying the life of a celebrated home-chef who was currently riding the wave of popularity on social media. Today, just a day before V-Day, she had a shoot lined up at her spacious home, where she had recently converted a section into a "cook & shoot" area to make her live sessions disturbance-free from household interferences. That metaphoric 'Seema' in every family

There are no free lunches in life!  Seema was brought up with the same belief. Today, it so happens that one might find Seema breaking her back making elaborate lunches that some ungrateful person will hog on, without any gratitude, much less appreciation!  But that's life, and you can't always make lemonade out of lemons that life throws at you. And so Seema continues to slog on........ Seema made a choice way back in her 30s to be a stay-at-home mom. Brought up in a family that meted out its due worth to education, her parents let her pursue whatever she wanted to, never once letting it be known that they were not in favor of a successful career where Seema was concerned. Seema on the other hand was brimming with enthusiasm to start her first job as soon as she graduated in English Literature, no mean feat by itself! Woman in her 40s: A Force to Reckon!

Recently I came across a WhatsApp forward message that was doing the rounds. It was about women, predominantly women in their 40s, how they change emotionally, get more assertive, and unafraid to tread on their own. While I usually rubbish cliches, this one I couldn't help but agree, mostly because it had a resounding echo to my own sentiments. And yes, I indeed feel that women at a certain point do undergo a radical emotional change that is hard to ignore. 40 may be a speculative figure, but personally, I am experiencing it right now, and yes, I'm in my early 40s. So let's give due validation to the sentiment that entering into our 40s is a milestone and every bit worth the celebration and hype around it. Having said that, you don't really wake up on your 40th birthday feeling any different. So don't earmark that year assuming things will change magically and you'll become a unicorn!
